Your Right to Data Deletion

BookReader respects your privacy and gives you complete control over your data. You have the right to request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. This page explains how to delete your account and what data will be removed.

What Data Gets Deleted?

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed from our Firebase database:

  • Your email address
  • Your encrypted password
  • All EPUB files and reading data
  • Your reading progress and bookmarks
  • Text-to-speech preferences and settings
  • Your library and book organization
  • All user account information and metadata
  • Any sync data stored in the cloud

Note: EPUB files you uploaded are not stored on our servers by default (they remain on your device). However, any reading data associated with your account will be deleted.

How to Delete Your Account in the App

Follow these steps to delete your account directly from the BookReader app:

  1. Open the BookReader app
  2. Navigate to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Select Account Settings
  4. Tap Delete Account
  5. Review the warning message about permanent data deletion
  6. Confirm your password
  7. Tap Permanently Delete Account
  8. Confirm the final deletion prompt

⚠️ WARNING: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data will be immediately deleted from Firebase.

Deletion Timeline

Immediate Deletion (0-1 seconds)

Your account is immediately deactivated and all data is marked for deletion in our Firebase database.

Complete Removal (1-30 days)

All data is permanently purged from Firebase backup systems and archives. Full compliance with data retention policies.

If you cannot delete your account through the app or need additional assistance:

We will process deletion requests within 30 days or as required by applicable law (e.g., GDPR requires 30 days).

Google Play Console Compliance

BookReader complies with Google Play's data deletion policy and requirements:

  • Users can request deletion of their data within the app
  • Deletion requests are processed immediately upon user request
  • All personal data is removed from our servers (Firebase)
  • Users can delete their account without contacting support
  • This page provides clear information about data deletion
  • We comply with GDPR and other privacy regulations

Data Retention for Legal Compliance

In limited circumstances, we may retain certain information despite your deletion request if required by law, including:

  • Legal holds or compliance requirements
  • Transaction records for accounting purposes (anonymized)
  • Fraud prevention data
  • Data required by law enforcement

All such retained data will be de-identified and will not be associated with your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I recover my data after deletion?

A: No. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Please ensure you have backed up any important reading notes or data before requesting deletion.

Q: Will I be able to use BookReader again after deletion?

A: Yes, you can create a new account with the same or different email address. Your previous data will not be accessible.

Q: How long does deletion take?

A: Your account is immediately deactivated. Complete removal from all backup systems occurs within 30 days.

Q: What about EPUB files I downloaded?

A: EPUB files remain on your device. You are responsible for deleting them manually from your device's storage.

Q: Do you delete data from Google backups?

A: BookReader does not back up to Google Drive or cloud storage. All data is stored in Firebase only and will be deleted as described above.

Q: Can I request deletion on behalf of someone else?

A: Yes, you can request deletion for another user by emailing privacy@bookreader.app with their email address. We will verify authorization.

Q: What if I have issues deleting my account?

A: Contact us at privacy@bookreader.app with the subject "Unable to Delete Account" and we will assist you.
